Wards
launches its charitable fund with £29,000 donation
- 11 May 2006
One year after the initial announcement of its Centenary Fund (a charitable fund to commemorate the firm’s 100 year anniversary), Wards Solicitors have reached their target sum and can start to make donations to local charities.
In a recent ceremony, Jenny Pierce, Wards’ Head of Wills & Trusts and the force behind the scheme, handed over a cheque for £29,973.40, raised from continued partner donations and staff fund-raising activities. The total Centenary Fund now stands at around £50,000.
Quartet Community Foundation (formerly The Greater Bristol Foundation) is administering the fund. The capital is invested and each year the income will be used to make grants to support voluntary organisations in the Greater Bristol and North Somerset area – where Wards have eleven offices. The first donations are soon to be decided on.
Jenny comments: “The main idea behind the Wards’ Centenary Fund is to have some fun whilst raising funds for local and national causes, which – in turn – will create a lasting testament to the fund-raising achievements of our staff. We will be making use of Gift Aid and income tax relief to ensure we maximise the funds available for good causes”.
Helen Moss, Director of Quartet adds: “With our guidance and on Wards’ behalf, we’ll be making donations to local charities on an ongoing basis and, in this way, the firm will be putting something back into the local community.”
